Dear reader,
What a week it has been! Let me try to recap:
1) within the first few days “Hush of the Land: A Lifetime in the Bob Marshall Wilderness” my book with and about Smoke Elser sold out in Missoula, Hamilton, and Amazon; *The wonderful Fact and Fiction bookstore is taking phone orders and is setting up an online order form so anybody who like a signed book copy can get one mailed anywhere in the U.S.. More on that soon!
2) 2nd printing is already underway, wohoo!
3) Over 450 people came to our first two reading/storytelling events a) at the Montana Back Country Horsemen Convention at Fairmont Hot Springs:
and b) at our book release party at the University of Montana Theater (a magical night of music, stories, tears, and laughter). *Once the MCAT recording becomes available, I will share the link here!
4) MTPR’s Lauren Korn did a wonderful interview for The Write Question, Rob Chaney wrote a beautiful piece for the Missoulian, and Keely Larson did a great write-up for Mountain Journal and the Seeley Lake Pathfinder.
A few things that I learned:
Turn off my professor brain and remember to actually read from the book! It was so much fun showing pictures and talking about our journey, that I completley forgot to read at the convention event in Fairmont. *I don’t think anybody noticed because Smoke’s stories were phenomenal.
I love to bring my kids to these events, but I need to expect that they WILL get sick.
Enjoy every minute.
